All things garden since 1927

Originally the kitchen garden for Holden Clough House, in 1927 the land was turned into an alpine nursery by Richard Milne-Redhead and one of the leading alpine nurseries was born.

The nursery was purchased by the Foley Family and the range of plants grown was increased along with exhibiting at more specialist flower show and plant fairs up and down the country. John was born in 1987 and his journey into the gardening world began den building and growing ferns.

With his love of Crocosmias, John took over the nursery with his girlfriend Kate, with many plans to transform the nursery into a destination for gardeners. The awards for the plants continued and John began landscaping many gardens around the Ribble Valley

John & Kate were awarded their first RHS gold Medal, John became the BBC Young Gardener of the Year and the Garden Kitchen opened. The small team of five became a team of 30 across the nursery, cafe and landscaping businesses.

With numerous gold medals won by the nursery for its hardy plants, John and Kate made plans for further expansion. The Glasshouse opened followed by a the new Potting Shed and Botanical Room. The nursery also began expanding into the field next door with more growing beds, plans for overflow parking and then the opening of a new area down by The Beck surrounding The New Croft Pod

It’s our favorite time of year and whilst we are busy with new developments and growing plants at the nursery we love to do what we do best and exhibit our finest plants and flowers.

With exciting plans to develop our food offering with the return of The Kitchen and new Reading Room in early October, along with more growing beds planned in our field and additional car parking our world of All Things Garden Continues to grow…..then with our 2023 RHS Tatton Park Master Grower exhibit and a BBC Gardeners World Appearance all filmed for 2023 it’s going to be a very exciting year for Holden Clough….
