Pots & Pithoi

Add character with classic terracotta.

Statuesque, hand-thrown pots add timeless form and style to your garden.

Established in 1985, Pots and Pithoi were the first company to introduce high quality Cretan terracotta pots to the UK. Made by the finest potters in Crete, each pot is unique, and will bear the prints of the craftsperson who produced it.

What’s a pithoi?

Pithoi is the plural of pithos, a large container or jar, often with handles, traditionally used for storing grain, oil or wine.

Made using ancient techniques.

The pots you’ll see at Holden Clough are still made using traditional craft methods. Each pot is fired at around 1050°C using crushed olive stones and grape seeds rather than in gas kilns like modern terracotta.
